Durham Baths

Saturday, 24th January 2015...

Today, we visited Durham city baths. Opened in 1932 to replace a existing pool that was peat floored (this often caused the water to turn brown.) the main pool measures 75 feet by 30 feet. This was big enough for competitions by the 'amateur swimming association' the pool then closed in July 2008 ,plans were made to demolish the building for a new housing estate to be built .These plans feel through and the building quickly feel into a state of dereliction.

1:30 pm , Central Station (Newcastle)...

After spending the morning taking pictures of town and drinking plenty full amounts of Costa ,we made our way down to the train station and boarded the train Durham.

As soon as we got off the train photo opportunity's came thick and fast ...

It took us a wile to navigate our way around the tight, winding streets of Durham ,thankfully the kind people of Durham were on hand to help...

And then eventually in a car park stood a majestic building .... Durham city baths ...

and if you think the outside looks good. Take a look at this...

the main pool still retains its original architectural features that gives the building a regal like quality ...

the building also contains a smaller swimming pool for children ...

the lighting in the baths was perfect, and even better in the tight corridors were the light wasn't as bright...

I hope you enjoyed reading this .Any advice and tips would be much appreciated ,

Thank you !

A Trip to the country

sometime in December ,2015 ...

Newcastle Upon Tyne , not known for its romantic countrysides to the wider population but if you delve deep into Newcastle not only will you find the hustle and bustle of the city, but you will have your breath taken away by our sweeping country side, Green fields and ,wealth of history.

in December of this year I was in Throckley just west of Newcastle, which I am regularly but I am often to busy to take in the dramatic landscape. So on a cold Saturday afternoon I grabbed my camera and went scouting for locations to try and take some pictures of this village. the village seems dense with history from the Romans building Hadrian wall which runs through, to the more resent mining community I wanted to capture the essence of this through my lens.
-the journey of a thousand miles starts with one step-

I was very lucky that I had good weather for these pics considering it was the middle of December .on these shots I really wanted to try to get a washed-out look so decided to try a HDR effect to give that luminosity.

Although the landscape was amazing at Throckley I did find subject matter a bit hard to find .But the natural curves of the nature that surrounded me seemed good enough for the type of photo that I was looking to get.

-Dry stone wall-
The following pictures show a different, side to Throckley namely the agriculture. Whilst walking back from the fields in the previous photographs I came across A herd of sheep .Naturally the sheep were curious as to why I was there and so the looks on their faces were very amusing and perfect for subject matter.

however the sheep's interest in me didn't last long as only 5 or so minutes had passed when the sheep turned their backs on me and returned to  grazing .

I would really advise going for a walk in Throckley one day .its a very peaceful and relaxing environment great for a boring Sunday afternoon .Thank you for reading and any comments tips or advice would be much appreciated :)
