Durham Baths

Saturday, 24th January 2015...

Today, we visited Durham city baths. Opened in 1932 to replace a existing pool that was peat floored (this often caused the water to turn brown.) the main pool measures 75 feet by 30 feet. This was big enough for competitions by the 'amateur swimming association' the pool then closed in July 2008 ,plans were made to demolish the building for a new housing estate to be built .These plans feel through and the building quickly feel into a state of dereliction.

1:30 pm , Central Station (Newcastle)...

After spending the morning taking pictures of town and drinking plenty full amounts of Costa ,we made our way down to the train station and boarded the train Durham.

As soon as we got off the train photo opportunity's came thick and fast ...

It took us a wile to navigate our way around the tight, winding streets of Durham ,thankfully the kind people of Durham were on hand to help...

And then eventually in a car park stood a majestic building .... Durham city baths ...

and if you think the outside looks good. Take a look at this...

the main pool still retains its original architectural features that gives the building a regal like quality ...

the building also contains a smaller swimming pool for children ...

the lighting in the baths was perfect, and even better in the tight corridors were the light wasn't as bright...

I hope you enjoyed reading this .Any advice and tips would be much appreciated ,

Thank you !
